The Department of Molecular and Biomedical Sciences at the Jozef Stefan Institute has been studying secreted phospholipases A2 (sPLA2s) for more than two decades. The products of enzymatic activity of sPLA2, fatty acids and lysophospholipids, as protein ligands for tissue receptors are involved in numerous physiological and pathological processes in organisms. In addition, the group works on molecular evolution of toxins, functional diversification of multigene families by adaptive evolution and 3D structure. This team is also active in the design and construction of expression vectors, amino acid sequencing and bioinformatics.
