The Toxinomics Foundation is a not-for-profit Foundation created in June 2006 by members of the International Society on Toxinology (IST) dedicated to the advancement of the science of the venomous function, the understanding of its implication for society, and communication of those results to the scientific community, the public, and policy makers. The Foundation is aimed at supporting the ambitious venomous system genome project that was born in 2003 during the IST World Congress. The Foundation with experts and decision makers from each continent is a legal body that will serve as an interface between IST, funding agencies, research institutes, pharmaceutical companies and the public.

Key persons involved in the project:

Prof André Ménez (President of the French " Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle "), Prof Dietrich Mebs and Dr Reto Stöcklin (Head of Atheris, Coordinator of CONCO) are founding members. Dr George Miljanich, CEO of Airmid LLC (USA), played a key role at Elan Pharmaceuticals in progressing the novel analgesic PRIALT® through the final stages of development, toward FDA and EMEA approval, and to the analgesia market. He is with Prof Alan Harvey (editor-in-chief of Toxicon) from the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow in the advisory board. Dr Anne Descours and Dr Ysadora Charital have also recently joined the Foundation. All will be active in the CONCO project.
