Members of the Laboratory of Pharmacognosy and Chemistry of Natural Products of the Department of Pharmacy at the University of Patras have focused on the design and molecular modelling of peptide analogues for many years. They are experts in chemical synthesis (especially combinatorial synthesis), structural analysis and biological studies of peptides. Additionally the group of Prof Paul Cordopatis uses computational methods such as Molecular Dynamics Simulation and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) strategies for elucidating the 3D solution structures of peptides/proteins and to study biopolymers'dynamics over a wide range of time scales. The group has also developed a Virtual Screening process for identification of lead molecules and protein/enzyme targets. Combinatorial libraries of compounds will be designed in silico, high-throughput screening through docking simulation protocols and optimisation of structural and biological properties of the lead molecules will be undertaken.
