PharmaLinks is a joint initiative of the Universities of Glasgow and Strathclyde to enhance their activities in biomedical and pharmaceutical research. Based on activities of over 1'000 scientists PharmaLinks has expertise and facilities in most aspects of drug discovery and development and in most therapeutic areas. These include resources for identification and validation of therapeutic targets, drug discovery screening, computational chemistry and drug design, synthesis of heterocyclic compounds, "hit-to-lead" optimisation, in vivo imaging, in vitro and in vivo functional testing, and drug delivery. Diseases of interest include asthma, arthritis, atherosclerosis, Alzheimer's and other neurodegenerative diseases, diabetes and obesity, heart failure, hypertension, infectious diseases, and stroke.
Key persons involved in the project:
Prof Alan Harvey is a major key player in the area of animal toxins and is also the editor of Toxicon, the journal of reference of the International Society on Toxinology. He will be assisted by two research fellows, Louise Young and Carol Clements.
