Institution:
The bioinformatics group at the Estonian Biocentre located in the University of Tartu was created in 2001 and is focusing on the design of DNA microarrays, on comparative genomics and on the modelling of haplotype structure of the human genome. The bioinformatics group has extensive collaboration with other research groups in Europe and is participating to MolTools, an EU/FP6 integrated project.
Key persons involved in the project:
Prof Maido Remm, expert in bioinformatics, will be in charge of the team working in the Biocentre. Dr Tõnu Möls, expert of statistical analysis, has 30 years of experience in modelling of biological systems. Reidar Andreson, MSc. has experience with different primer design methodologies and various web-based programming technologies. Reedik Mägi, MSc has a background in ecology and molecular biology, expert in modelling of human haplotype-block structures and development of new methods for large-scale association studies using PERL, Visual Basic and C++ programming languages and wide range of statistical analysis methods. Tõnu Margus, Age Tats and Lauris Kaplinski have background in biology or biochemistry and have field interests in comparative genomics or biocomputing programming.
