Prof Rolf Boelens is director of the high-resolution NMR facility at Utrecht University. His field of expertise includes Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) of metalloproteins, NMR spectroscopy of DNA binding and ribosomal proteins, method development in biomolecular NMR spectroscopy and computational methods, resulting in over 240 publications. A major achievement is the biomolecular docking approach HADDOCK (High Ambiguity Driven protein-protein DOCKing) that can make use of biochemical and or biophysical information such as NMR titration data or mutagenesis data to drive the docking process.

Key persons involved in the project:

Staff contributing to the project will be Dr Alexandre Bonvin for computational expertise, Dr Gert Folkers in molecular biology, protein expression and production for structural genomics, and Dr R. Wechselberger will share his expertise on experimental NMR spectroscopy for studying biomolecular complexes. CONCO will benefit considerably from the expertise available via Prof Boelens'role in the recent European Network of Research Infrastructures for bio-NMR ( EU-NMR ) and the Coordination Action NMR-Life projects.
